A boy aged 16 was killed and seven others injured early Wednesday in Carlsbad in a rollover crash.
Police said eight teens were in a Toyota 4Runner SUV which went out of driver’s control for unknown reasons near Carlsbad Village Drive just before 2:30 a.m.
The vehicle rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop. The injured were taken to hospital and the street remained shut down for several hours.
Five of the wounded teens were taken to area hospitals for treatment. But Jack Munday, 16, succumbed to the severe wounds he suffered in the accident.
The three other victims tried to flee the area and were found a block away. They too were hospitalized.
All the occupants of the ill-fated SUV were aged between 16 and 18. Carlsbad police said that alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the fatal crash.
Munday, who earlier was a student of the Carlsbad High School, had shifted last year to Coastal Academy High School.
