A father and his two youngest children were killed in a crash by a suspected DUI driver in San Bernardino. The incident occurred just last Friday after Thanksgiving in San Bernardino County. The father drove his four children home in a Toyota Camry around 11:45 p.m. A Ford Mustang ran a red light at the Kendall Drive and University Parkway intersection and struck the family’s vehicle.
The family’s vehicle burst into flames, according to the San Bernardino Police Department. Tavea Tarlton, the 31-year-old father of the family, died at the scene of the crash. Witnesses were unable to get him out of the vehicle. All four children were pulled out of the wreck and immediately rushed to the hospital. The two youngest children, a 2-year old boy named Farrow and a 4-year-old girl named Eliza, sadly died the next day due to their injuries. The other two children, 8-year-old named Dallas and 5-year-old Khamyil, suffered moderate to severe injuries and remain hospitalized.
The driver of the Ford Mustang, identified as 23-year-old Brandon Jaquez-Perez, was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI and gross-vehicular manslaughter. It is believed that alcohol and speed played major factors in the incident, and inmate records show that Perez’s bail was set at $250,000.
